SNOW DAY!!! - NO REHEARSAL!!!

As you all know by now, it's SNOW FREAK OUT TIME IN PORTLAND.

So, if we were in most other cities, we'd yawn about the snow and have rehearsal, but we are in Portland.

So...rehearsal for Wednesday 12/14 is canceled.  Be safe and check the blog over the winter break!

Superstition: Stage Management

This year, we will have 3 people on the stage management team:  a lead stage manager and two assistants.  Each person will have specific duties and oversight - and act as a liaison/supervisor to areas of design and implementation.  Some of this will be determined during the rehearsal process, but some things are known now.  The three roles are:

LEAD STAGE MANAGER / BOARD OP AND SOUND SUPERVISOR

ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGER / DECK AND LIGHTING SUPERVISOR

ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGER / BOARD OP AND COSTUME-PROPS SUPERVISOR

The LEAD STAGE MANAGER position has already been filled.  I'm happy to announce that Jared Knofczynski has accepted my offer to take on this role.

For the other two positions, I will interview candidates.  If you are interested in one of the two Assistant Stage Manager positions, please email me at:  matthew.b.zrebski@gmail.com  We will then set up a time to chat either in person or over the phone.  If you are auditioning, but would be interested in one of these positions if not cast, please go ahead and let me know.  It will not, in any way, affect my casting decision.  But it will let me start planning.  No experience is necessary!

Knuckle Knock

NW13 Writer Announcement Delay

Given the volume of applicants and finalists, I need to take a little more time to assess fully and make sure I'm respecting each writer and giving everyone the proper amount of consideration time.  I have also decided to utilize one of the panelists who read the initial proposals to look again at the applications.

The interviews are going splendidly, and I continue to be so impressed with the level of care being given to the process.

My intention is to announce the selected writers via the blog no later than 12:00p on Wednesday 6/15.  This announcement will also include the play assignments.  Those writers will then have to email me to confirm their participation.  Should any writer not wish to participate, given their play assignment, I will then go to one of the other finalists.

Thank you for your patience.  I hope the summer break has started well for all of you!

NW13 Playwriting Finalists

I wish to thank the 22 students who put so much effort into these applications and writing samples.  It was a truly impressive group.  I hope everyone continues to write!

I am excited to announce that the finalists are (in no particular order):

Alex Denman-Still
Ben Pagano
Bilal Nasir
Emma Weightman
Jared Knofczynski
Katie Reahl
Lydia Fecker
Olivia Fouser
Rory Hays
Sammy Martin
Teis Jayaswal
Bowen Hampton

These writers will be contacted by email to set up phone interviews to occur prior to 5:00p on June 13.  From these finalists, the seven will be selected.

I know it can be extremely disappointing to not make this initial list. Please do not take this as an indication of your talent.  There was not a single "weak" application in this pool.  Keep going in your pursuits!!!

Decision Process: NW13

Thank you to the 22 writers who applied for next year's festival.  It's a record for applications and illustrates the excitement this festival brings!

The applications have been sent to two colleagues of mine, who along with me, will whittle the list down to roughly 10 finalists.  This is happening over today and tomorrow.

By late Wednesday 6/8 or early Thursday 6/9, these finalists will be notified and interviews set up.

If you have questions about anything, feel free to email:  matthew.b.zrebski@gmail.com

TODAY 5/12: Full Company in Auditorium at 6:00p Sharp

A few days ago, this was posted regarding the pick up rehearsal:

I will not be present.  Marjorie and Lydia will run this rehearsal.  My expectation is that you treat this professionally and take advantage of the opportunity to brush up before closing weekend, so that the show leaps forward and does not fall backward!  I will get a full report on how things went.

I'd like each of you in this company to consider this statement, and then I want you to ask yourself if you honored this directive - if you displayed professionalism and integrity throughout the rehearsal - and if you believe you engaged in the process in a manner that truly helped our production move forward.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts at 6:00p today at a full company meeting in the auditorium.

PICK UP REHEARSAL

Due to a change in the filming schedule of the show, the schedule for Wednesday 5/11 has changed.  Please note the following:

PICK UP REHEARSAL
Wednesday 5/11
3:45p CALL
4:00p GO
Released when finished (around 6p)

You WILL NOT be in costume, except for footwear.  All shoes (bare feet) must remain accurate.  The run will be a speed through.  Dances and all fight choreography will be at accurate tempos.  You will have sound and lights.  A speed through does not mean mumbling through.  It simply means attacking the beats with energy.

I will not be present.  Marjorie and Lydia will run this rehearsal.  My expectation is that you treat this professionally and take advantage of the opportunity to brush up before closing weekend, so that the show leaps forward and does not fall backward!  I will get a full report on how things went.

Thanks!

Ticket Sales and Closing Weekend!

Hey all!

First - what a truly marvelous opening weekend we had.  I am so proud of the work.  The show came together beautifully, and the show grew night to night; you have all displayed a huge amount of integrity - and that is the #1 goal.  CONGRATS!!!

Second - Ticket Sales!  Truth be told, they were a bit disappointing.  With this number of students and families involved in the show - it's hard to understand how we can't get to 96 patrons each night.  But what's more concerning is that, perhaps, people have all waited to see the show until closing weekend. And this always results in chaos at the box office as we have to turn people away.

PLEASE TAKE TIME TO DO THIS:
For every single person you know who wants to see the show, urge them to purchase their tickets online NOW.  Do not wait.  For families wanting to make sure they have tickets for any of the three remaining shows, purchase your tickets online NOW.  Do not wait.   Wouldn't it be awesome to simply sell out in advance?

I hope you have a good few days off!

MAKE UP!!!

ACTORS:

All female actors should bring in street make up.  For the show, we will try variations of this.  (India will have her own special treatment which crew will work on with her tomorrow.)  Female actors should also bring in various hair accessories to make sure hair can be styled to be out of the face.

Male actors need to have brown eye liner for their bottom lids.

The following actors also need translucent face powder:  Olivia F, Alex D-S, Barrett, Ben P., Ryan.

Make-up will not be required for Sunday (India will be in make up) but will be required for Monday and on.  That said, if you have make up, go ahead and use it on Sunday.  If you need assistance getting any of these items, please notify stage management during tech tomorrow.

Street Clothes!

CAST ALERT!

There will be intros and interludes as part of this production with minor text that introduces each play.  Most of the cast will be involved with this at some level.  This will be integrated on Sunday and Monday during the tech/dress.

You will need to wear street clothes for these moments.  And those can change night to night.  But there are some rules:  no logos or text, no flip flops, no extreme heels, no hats, no bare feet.

Also in preparation for this, keep in mind the following:

INTRODUCTION / Into Bearing the Blaze
This will feature the casts of Engine and Warning Sign (no Alex).  This means the actors in Engine will change into their costumes during Bearing the Blaze

INTERLUDE - into Engine
This will feature actors from Warning Sign

INTERMISSION

INTERLUDE - into Warning Sign
This will feature actors from Bearing the Blaze and Engine.

CURTAIN CALL
All actors in costumes from the actual plays. This means actors from Bearing the Blaze and Engine will have to change back into their costumes for curtain call.

Schedule Change: Saturday 4/30

The calls and agendas for Saturday 4/30 have been changed.

ACTORS CALLED:  10:00a - 1:00p
Agenda:  Run - no tech

CREW CALLED*:  10:00a - 6:00p
Agenda:  Finish all tasks

*The SMs will alert specific crew members as to their individual calls.  Also note that those attending prom may leave by 5:00p.  But all tasks must be complete by end of the day.  When tech begins on Sunday 5/1 at 10:00a - ALL MUST BE READY

For Today 4/16: THREE THINGS

ONE
You will be getting your headshot taken today at the top of rehearsal, so be prepared for that if you wish it look a certain way.

TWO
For the many attending drama night out (Chrysalis) after rehearsal, transportation is not provided.  There seems to have been a bit of confusion about that.  I am, however, willing to drive 4 people to and from the show this evening so long as I receive an email from your parent, stating that it's okay for me to do so.  (matthew.b.zrebski@gmail.com) The show is at 7p, so it leaves an hour to get there.  They would like people to check in by 6:45p.

THREE
If you did not sign up for Chrysalis but still want to come, there are still seats as of this morning.
